Editorial Review
Opening to much fanfare in 2023, The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne claimed the title of Australia's tallest hotel. The experience is designed to impress from the onset: guests take an express elevator directly to the Level 80 Sky Lobby, where check-in is conducted against a breathtaking, uninterrupted panorama of the Melbourne skyline, Port Phillip Bay, and beyond.
Located on Lonsdale Street, the hotel sits at the western end of the CBD. While it places guests slightly further away from the traditional luxury precinct of Collins Street's "Paris End," it provides excellent proximity to Marvel Stadium, the Docklands, and Spencer Street station.
The guestrooms, distributed between levels 65 and 79, are masterpieces of modern luxury design. They feature dark wood paneling, marble bathrooms with deep soaking tubs, and custom furnishings that feel highly residential and incredibly refined. Soundproofing is exceptional, creating a serene, cloud-like oasis far removed from the city bustle below. The infinity pool on Level 64 is a dramatic space that begs to be photographed.
Dining and The Club Level
Dining on Level 80 is anchored by Atria, an outstanding restaurant championing local Victorian produce, and Cameo, an intimate and imaginative cocktail bar. The culinary execution here proves that hotel dining can confidently compete with Melbourne's fierce independent restaurant scene.
It is worth noting for Marriott Bonvoy elites that The Ritz-Carlton brand is excluded from Marriott's standard Guaranteed Lounge Access benefit. At this property, The Ritz-Carlton Club is a true premium product with five daily culinary presentations, but guests should book a room or suite that includes Club access rather than expecting access through Platinum, Titanium, or Ambassador status alone. Bonvoy suite upgrades remain possible subject to availability, but rooms with direct Club access are excluded from complimentary elite upgrades under the programme rules.
Verdict
The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne has successfully redefined sky-high luxury in the city. With impeccably finished rooms, extraordinary dining, and service that anticipates rather than reacts, it sits comfortably at the very pinnacle of Melbourne's luxury hotel market.
